ICEBERG BRANDING PARTY

So I’m back with a new look, new attitude new swag... and I'm trying new things and taking seriously my God given talent... I’ve always been a public speaker and I love attention (sad but true, who doesn't?) Right from my school days, but my interested in presenting was strongly developed whilst in University .Being a course rep and the president of the African Caribbean society in Leicester (ACS) my main duties included organizing events, communicating and liaising with people from all works of life, raising funds for the society and charity and now I’ve taken up the challenge of presenting and hosting professionally as part of my media entertainment package.

Journey so far PT 4 (MISS NIGERIA UK 09)

beauty queen
OCT 2009 I got back to the UK and got involved in the MISS NIGERIA UK BEAUTY PAGEANT
This event owes its existence to the dream of a remarkable little girl – Natasha Isimeme Ojie (1988 – 1994). Natasha’s brief life touched our hearts and impacted our lives forever.

Natasha was diagnosed with a brain tumour when she was only four years old. For one and a half years she went through several surgical operations and suffered the terrible after effects of chemotherapy.

Amidst all this, she showed unbelievable bravery, not permitting this tragically terminal illness to deter her.

… I took time to research on the event and found out that auditions were still taking place for the Miss Nigeria beauty pageant and immediately enrolled myself for it.
I didn’t tell my family or friends I only told my sister and Ruru what I was up to at the time as I was afraid that if I failed or didn’t win they would laugh at me or encourage me to give up on my goal, I didn’t tell them because I didn’t also want the pressure that come from their goodwill and support during rehearsals and preparation. I started rehearing with the other contestant and our wonderful coach Rueben. Ruben I met a year ago when I went to audition for production he was organizing in the west end and didn’t get cut , I thought to myself “oh lord he is going to think I’m a flop” and I’ll probably have problem with him during rehearsals, but to my greatest surprise he was very supportive and still is till date. I practiced my routines everyday and a week to the show I finally decided to tell my friends, still didn’t tell mum and dad,
The D-day had come DECEMBER 5TH 2009…. Nervous and scarred... everything went as planed the girls were awesome and guess what >>>>>> I WON<<<< WOW the happiest day of my life…finally after all these years of trying so hard... I AM MISS NIGERIA UK 2009

Journey so far PT 3 (NIGERIA'S TOP MODEL)

Hello diamonds its been a while ,in fact a really long time since blogged about my journey so far, I have been on holiday and still trying to fulfill my dream and haven’t had time to update .

Quick reminder to all my reader remember the aim of this blog is to inspire people especially women to pursue their dreams regardless of the many obstacle you may face.

So in 2007 I entered into the competition called NIGERIA’S TOP MODEL in the UK, and like I said before it was a really bitter sweet experience, as I was in my second year had a lot of work load on my hands from school and also running a society as the PRESIDENT OF THE AFRO CARIBBEAN SOCIETY at the University of Leicester,
At the same time facing challenges in the modeling industries, as a young girl I was really under a lot of pressure to be skinny and started to adapt to bad eating habits.
And after a while I started to notice I was irritable and was isolating myself from people to avoid being in an environment where there was food.
The competition NIGERIA TOP MODEL was organized by a lady called Sandra powers and although she had her goodwill for the show, a lot of things didn’t go to plan and things got really ugly and there was a lot of chaos and negative stories, the plus side of everything was although I didn’t win, I had the opportunity of meeting some of the sweetest people who remain very close friends till date, got a magazine cover, did a fashion shoot for the daily mirror and various fashion show in London. Now at this time I was well on my way to fulfilling my dream and more than anything I was grateful to GOD. That same year I did very well in school and was looking forward to getting into my final year of university (phew thank God).
Between the end of 2007 and 2008 my life was about studying and with the help of GOD I graduate with a 2:1. My parents family and friends were pleased and happy for me and I was most proud of myself.

Fast forward to APRIL 2009…. After working for almost year I was faced with a very bad tragedy which forced me to make a decision to go back to Nigeria on getting to Nigeria I was so depressed and unhappy and was constantly running away from home, I spent most of my time in Lagos instead of my hometown Port Harcourt.
I prayed everyday for God’s intervention in my life and as God would have it by August everything was sorted, I had the best time of life in Nigeria and meet some really amazing people. It got to a point where I didn’t want to come back anymore to the UK, but hey there a time for everything and at that time I knew I had to come back to face up to my responsibilities, but that wasn’t really the driving force behind my wanting to come back ,
Whilst I was in Nigeria I experienced a very bad plane incident. Just as we were about to land Port Harcourt (my home town), e started experience very terrible turbulence and just as people where crying and shouting I look out the window and thought GOD WHY ME? Is this why you brought me here, not you cant let me die, I was almost falling of my seat and at so many times my head would hit the window, tear rolled down my eyes and I closed my eyes and prayed, and after 15 mins everything clamed down, lord know as soon as the opened the door of the plane I was already out..Lol….
I cried for days from the shock of my experience, and then I told myself from this day henceforth I will never let an opportunity pass me by, I will make sure that I do my best and try as much as possible to achieve my life goal, and even when I’m turned down I’ll be happy and grateful that I tried.

Because early detection is a woman's best defense against breast cancer,
About Breast Cancer
The most common malignancy in women is breast cancer. Nationally, about 182,460 women and 1,990 men will develop breast cancer this year. Breast cancer ranks second among cancer deaths in women. When breast cancer is detected early, the five-year survival rate is greater than 95 percent.
Risk Factors
• Simply being female is the greatest risk factor
• Women older than 40
• Women older than 35 whose mother or sister has had breast or ovarian cancer or father had prostate cancer
• Women who have never been pregnant or who first become pregnant after age 30
• Women who have had cancer in one breast or atypical ductal hyperplasia (pre-cancer)
• Women who started menstruation before age 12 or menopause at age 55 or older
• Women who are obese with excessive caloric and fat intake
Anything that increases your chance of getting cancer is a risk factor. Anything that decreases your chance of developing cancer is cancer prevention. If you want to self-assess your risk factors, take the free, online Breast Cancer Risk Assessment .

Breast Self-Exam
Monthly breast self-exams along with mammography at recommended intervals are essential for early detection of breast cancer. Not sure about how to do a breast exam? Refer to the following examination guidelines.

Step One ... in the shower
Stand in the shower and with fingers flat (use the pad of your fingers) move your hand gently over every part of each breast. Check for a lump, knot or thickening. Use right hand for left breast, left hand for right breast.

Step Two ... in front of a mirror
With your hands at your sides, visually check for lumps and depressions. Then, placing your palms on your hips, press down firmly, flex your chest muscles and check again. Don't worry if your breasts don't match.

Step Three ... in front of a mirror
Now raise your arms overhead. Look for changes in the contour of each breast as well as swelling or dimpling of the skin and changes in the nipple.

Step Four ... lying down
To examine your right breast, place a pillow or folded towel under your right shoulder and, with elbow bent, lay your right hand on your forehead. Do the same procedure for the other side.

Step Five ... lying down
With fingers flat, use your left hand to press an imaginary clock face on your right breast. Check for lumps or depressions. A ridge of firm tissue in the lower ridge is normal. Move in an inch toward the nipple and make the same circling motion again and again until you reach the center. Repeat with right hand, left breast.

Step Six ... lying down
Gently squeeze the nipple of each breast. Check for any unusual discharge, clear or bloody. Report any lumps, thickening or discharge you discover during this examination to your doctor immediately.

Take part and show support in the against cancer!

Love
MISS DIAMOND
